What is River Base?

The St. Johns River Base at Echockotee was founded at Camp Echockotee in 1923 and is owned by the North Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America. The St. Johns River Base at Echockotee is the starting point for RiverQuest rafting and kayak programs, hosts Aquatics Camp each summer, provides a location for training and activities of our council Aquatics Committee and is a popular destination for year round camping for Scouting units.

“The St. Johns River Base is where High Adventure begins in North Florida. Scouts of all ages will experience an outstanding river centric program.”

Jack Sears, Scout Executive

“RiverQuest is the best, most unique high adventure activity anywhere around. Who wouldn’t want to float downriver on a raft?”

Karen Kircher

“We said there warn’t no home like a raft, after all. Other places do seem so cramped up and smothery, but a raft don’t. You feel mighty free and easy and comfortable on a raft.”
